The name Rastafari comes from "Ras" (literally "Head") and "Tafari Makonnen," the pre-coronation name of Haile Selassie I which is often shortened to "Rasta." Some basic beliefs of the Rastafarian are to uphold the truth, defend good over evil and to do the will of God here on earth.
